The project of “Design, preparation and application of low carbon and high performance concrete based on activation of waste residue from ready mixed concrete plant” by China Construction Ready Mixed Concrete Co., Ltd won the third prize of 2020 CCPA Concrete Science and Technology Award (Technology Advancement).

The waste of ready mixed concrete is the solid waste produced in the production process of ready mixed concrete. At present, the treatment of concrete waste in China is mainly to separate, recycle and reuse it. The separated sand, aggregate and waste water can be reused for the production of ready mixed concrete after reaching the standard. A large amount of waste residue is mainly stacked, used as backfilling materials and low-quality recycled building materials. The resource utilization rate of waste residue is less than 10%. These large quantities of waste residue that are difficult to treat are stacked or buried, which requires huge human and financial resources, and causes environmental pollution and waste of resources. Therefore, it is urgent to develop an environment-friendly, low-cost and high value-added waste residue recycling method to realize the efficient disposal and resource utilization of waste residue.

 

Modified waste residue as admixture of cement-based materials is a reliable way to realize the high value-added utilization of waste residue. To solving the technical problems in the preparation of cement-based materials with waste residue as admixture, the research team of China Construction Ready Mixed Concrete Co., Ltd took usability, environmental protection, economy and high added value as the design objectives, carried out the research on the theory of waste residue activated composite admixture. A high activity waste residue as composite admixture suitable for cement-based materials is designed and developed. The research team developed special chemical admixtures suitable for cement-composite mineral admixtures cementitious material, designed and prepared C20-C70 high-performance concrete with excellent working performance and good durability. The production process and quality dynamic control technology of activated waste residue as composite mineral admixture is developed, and an industrial production line is constructed.

 

The main innovations of the project are as follows.

lThe design of activation modification of waste residue are put forward, which solves the problems of low activity, high energy consumption, and low efficiency of existing activation technology, and realizes the green recycling of waste residue in ready mixed concrete plant.

lThe optimization design method and key preparation technology of high-performance concrete with large amount of composite mineral admixtures were developed, and C20-C70 high-performance concrete with large amount of waste residue with excellent working performance and good durability was prepared.

lThe large-scale industrial production process design of waste residue activated has been completed, and the large-scale industrial production of ready mixed concrete with composite mineral admixtures has been realized. It has been successfully applied to projects such as super high-rise buildings, large-scale public facilities and municipal bridge construction, and achieved good results.

The industrial production of waste residue activated as composite mineral admixture was implemented in China Construction Commercial Concrete Co., Ltd., with a cumulative production of 40200 tons. A total of 4.08 million cubic meters of concrete with waste residue activated as composite mineral admixture have been produced, which has been applied in Huake photoelectric project, Guanggu Avenue reconstruction project, China Construction university residence project and other projects with good engineering application effect.
