Introduction

Suzhou Concrete and Cement Products Research Institute Co., Ltd (hereinafter referred to as "Suzhou Institute") is a national research and design unit specializing in the research and development of concrete and cement-based products under China National Building Material Group Co., Ltd.

Suzhou Institute is mainly engaged in the R&D and manufacture of new technologies, products and equipment for concrete, cement-based products, housing and building materials, chemical building materials, etc., industrial and civil building design, consulting and project general contracting, water conservancy and hydropower engineering, industrial and civil engineering construction, construction of anticorrosive, repair, reinforcement and waterproofing and leakage plugging for cement-based products.

Over the years, Suzhou Institute has undertaken and completed more than 600 projects, including national key technological innovation projects, Ministry of Science and Technology special fund projects for social welfare, Ministry of Science and Technology special fund projects for technological research and development of research institutes, and provincial and ministerial level scientific research and development projects (including standardization projects).

I. Research and development of new concrete and cement-based products and their application technology


Suzhou Institute specializes in the research of concrete and cement-based products and their application technologies, it has carried out research and development of new products and technologies such as low-carbon concrete and products, comprehensive utilization of solid waste, functional concrete, ready-mixed concrete, special concrete, ready-mixed mortar, concrete additives, prefabricated building parts, municipal concrete products, decorative concrete products, corrosion-resistant concrete products, eco-concrete products, concrete products for sponge cities, housing building materials and chemical building materials, etc. It provides professional technical consultation, plant production line design and other technical services. It also provides the industry with R&D and complete sets of technical services for concrete and cement-based products

II. China Concrete and Cement Products


Founded in 1974, China Concrete and Cement Products is a national core journal of building science co-sponsored by Suzhou Institute and China Concrete and Cement-based Products Association (CCPA).

III. Design and technical services of constructional engineering and building materials engineering


Under the call of the national “The Belt and Road Initiative”, Suzhou Institute has further accelerated the pace of internationalization, and has completed the design and optimization of nearly 40 cement-based production lines and other key construction projects at home and abroad; carried out the design, equipment and technical services for the construction of ready-mixed concrete, prestressed concrete piles, concrete poles, concrete pipes and other products. Its projects have covered more than 30 countries in Asia, Europe, Africa and Latin America, providing services for several construction projects for large cement groups such as LafargeHolcim, Heidelberg Cement and BUA Group.

IV. Specialized engineering general contracting business


Suzhou Institute focuses on building structure reinforcement, leakage repair of underground space, concrete defects treatment and other special engineering industry for more than 20 years, with advanced technology, excellent service team and rich practical experience, integrating structural design, testing and appraisal, construction general contracting, R&D and application of new materials and technologies. The services provided by Suzhou Institute cover water conservancy and hydropower, nuclear power, wind power, transportation, roads and bridges, ports and terminals, chemical industry, mines and civil buildings, etc. Suzhou Institute is committed to providing owners with professional consulting, program design, (special) construction general contracting and other package solutions.

V. UHPC precast concrete segment production and technical services


Suzhou Institute has a professional R&D and manufacturing team for tower segment, with design and transformation capabilities of professional mixing plant production line, it is able to upgrade general mixing equipment, it can also undertake the whole process of wind turbine segment production tasks from the selection of raw materials, mixing ratio design, production mixing, reinforcing steel binding, mold assembly, construction pouring, product maintenance, quality control. In 2023, it produced a total of 35,000 cubic meters of concrete, accounting for 25% of the national total production.

VI. Chemical building materials


Suzhou Institute continuously increases product improvement and new product development to provide the industry with research, R&D and application of various types of chemical building materials, such as concrete admixtures, cement grinding aids, waterproofing and plugging materials, repair and reinforcement materials, and reinforcing and anticorrosive coatings.

VII. Industry Training and Services


Concrete and Cement-Based Products Training Center is committed to the national concrete and cement-based products industry, scientific and technological innovation, product R&D, standards implementation, results releasing, academic exchanges and inspection and testing technology and other related training work. The center has established an information exchange and interoperability platform with about 100 enterprises in the industry.

Innovation Achievements: Key technology of preparation and application for Onshore Steel-Concrete Wind Turbine Hybrid Tower High/Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC) Tower Segment


I. Presentation of results:


1.Ultra High Performance Concrete (UHPC), with strength ranging from C120 to C200, is mainly used in bridges, tunnels, municipal products, architectural decoration products and other engineering fields.


2.Suzhou Institute has overcome the key technologies for the preparation and application of self-compacting C80 and C95 high-performance concrete segment for wind turbine tower as well as C150 Ultra-High performance concrete (UHPC150) segment, which have been successfully applied in the "Wind Leads New Energy 180-meter Wind Turbine - Lianshui JUSHI Wind Power Project", marking the first UHPC150 wind turbine hybrid tower to enter the engineering application in the world.


3.It’s becoming a trend that the height of wind turbine tower is getting higher and higher. UHPC tower uses standard modular segment design, so that a variety of segment module can be combined flexibly, which can be adapted to different hosts, different heights of the tower program, and has the advantages of good stiffness, prefabricated assembly for fast construction, low carbon emissions. The design has become one of the trends of wind turbine tower.


4.UHPC scientific research results are batch applicated in wind power hybrid tower segment production, which can significantly improve the stability and safety of wind power tower, it is the preferred material for the wind power industry to develop wind resources in the height of 200 meters to 500 meters in the future. At the same time, it expands the new field of cement products industry, which is of practical and long-term significance for the building materials and new energy industry to realize the “carbon peaking and carbon neutrality goals”.


II. The characteristic of innovative work in production quality control of Suzhou Institute UHPC production and supply and hybrid tower segment project

1.Use local materials, focus on solid waste resource utilization, reduce UHPC production costs;


2.Optimize on-site concrete mixing production process;


3.Remodel and upgrade of traditional production equipment, innovative UHPC production and pouring process;


4.Improve the quality control system and promote the standardization of UHPC segment for wind turbine hybrid tower.


III. The application of engineering production:


1.The wind turbine hybrid tower, produced with ultra-high performance concrete technology, is successfully applied in using ultra-high-performance concrete technology for wind turbine tower, successfully applied in the " Wind Leads New Energy 180-meter Wind Turbine - Lianshui JUSHI Wind Power Project ", marking the entry of the world's first UHPC150 wind turbine hybrid tower into engineering application.

2.At present, in Jiangsu, Gansu, Shaanxi, Tianjin and other places, UHPC is batch applicated in the wind turbine hybrid tower concrete segment production, and Relevant production technology services are being synchronized.

UHPC wind turbine hybrid tower

The tube of wind turbine hybrid tower is 180 meters high, of which the height of the concrete section is 157.4 meters, the diameter of the bottom is 7.8 meters, the diameter of the top is 4.8 meters, and the total weight is 1,840 tons.


3.Suzhou Institute completed the production of UHPC150 segment of 35,000 square meters in 2023, accounting for about 25% of the national UHPC usage.
